Guide: How to Sign in to iOS using 2FA

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for iOS

For Users | October 2026

About 2FA

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds a second step to signing in to Dropboy. After your username and password, you also enter a 6-digit code from an authenticator app on your phone. This keeps your account safe even if someone else learns your password.

Who

What they do

Users in a role with 2FA turned on

Set up an authenticator app once, then enter a 6-digit code every time they sign in.

Good to know: 2FA is set by your Admin. The user needs to have a valid email to recieve the QR Code/ Manual code. Each user gets the setup email when they next sign in. You have 5 attempts to enter the 6-digit code. After 5 wrong codes the account is locked for 24 hours, or until an Admin resets the 2FA. There is no enforcement deadline. Your Admin decides when 2FA is turned on for each role and user.

What you need

  • A smartphone with Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator (free in the App Store and Google Play).
  • A working email address on your Dropboy profile. The setup email is sent there.
  • Your phone's date and time set to automatic, so codes stay valid.

For Users

If your role has 2FA turned on, you will set up an authenticator app the first time you sign in. It takes about two minutes and only needs to be done once, or again if your Admin resets your 2FA.

The steps at a glance

  1. Sign in with your username and password.
  2. Request the setup email.
  3. Open the email and add Dropboy to your authenticator app by scanning the QR code or typing the setup key.
  4. Go back to Dropboy and select Continue.
  5. Enter the 6-digit code from the app.

Step 1. Sign in

Open the Dropboy app, enter your username and password, and tap Login.

Step 2. Request the setup email

If you have not set up an authenticator yet, Dropboy shows Set up two-factor authentication. The email address is partly hidden for privacy. Tap SEND EMAIL.

Step 3. Open the setup email

Open the email from the Dropboy team. It contains a QR code and, further down, a setup key.

Step 4. Add Dropboy to your authenticator app

  • Open Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. Not installed yet? Get it from the App Store: Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator.
  • Add a new account and scan the QR code from the email.
  • If you cannot scan it, for example because you are reading the email on the same phone, choose Enter a setup key in the app and type in the key from the email.
  • The app now shows a 6-digit code for Dropboy.

Step 5. Go back to Dropboy and tap Continue

Return to the same Dropboy screen where you requested the email and tap Continue.

Step 6. Enter the 6-digit code

Type the 6-digit code shown in your authenticator app and tap LOG IN. Codes refresh every 30 seconds, so enter the current one. You have 5 attempts to enter the correct code. See If your account is locked below.

Signing in after setup

  • Enter your username and password as usual.
  • Dropboy asks for the 6-digit code. Open your authenticator app and type in the current code.
  • Tap LOG IN.

Skipped the Continue step? No problem. Just log in again. If your authenticator is already set up, Dropboy asks for your 6-digit code. If not, it takes you through the setup again.

If your account is locked

You have 5 attempts to enter the correct 6-digit code. After 5 incorrect codes, your account is locked for 24 hours, or until your Admin resets your 2FA. To get back in sooner, ask your Admin to reset your two-factor authentication. You will then set up your authenticator app again at your next sign in. If you are the only Admin, contact support at support@dropboy.com to have your 2FA reset.

Troubleshooting

Problem

What to do

I did not get the setup email

Check your spam or junk folder. Make sure the email address on your profile is correct (ask your Admin to check it), then tap SEND AGAIN once the countdown has finished.

I cannot scan the QR code

In your authenticator app choose Enter a setup key and type in the key from the email. Use this if you are reading the email on the same phone.

My code is not accepted

Use the current code, because codes change every 30 seconds. Make sure your phone's date and time are set to automatic, and that you are using the Dropboy entry in the app.

I lost my phone or changed device

Ask your Admin to reset your two-factor authentication, then set up again with your new device.

My account is locked

You entered the wrong 6-digit code 5 times. Wait 24 hours, or ask your Admin to reset your two-factor authentication. If you are the only Admin, contact support@dropboy.com.

Keep your account safe

  • Treat the QR code and setup key like a password. Anyone who has them can create your sign-in codes.
  • Do not share or forward the setup email. Delete it when you have finished.
  • If you were not expecting a setup email, you can ignore it. Ask your administrator if you need help.
